On Monday night’s edition of Hannity‘s “Great American Panel,” guest Bob Beckel challenged what has become in the past few years something of a staple in Hannity canon: Sean Hannity‘s nickname for Barack Obama, “the Anointed One.” Needless to say, Hannity didn’t really see what all the fuss is about, and neither did his other guests.
Beckel opened up the panel segment by asking Hannity, essentially, to knock it off: “Can you do me one favor? I only ask this: Could you not call the President of the United States ‘the Anointed One’? I mean, I know it’s funny, and I know people like it, but he’s still the President of the United States.”
Hannity clarified that he didn’t mean any disrespect to the President of the office of the President and that he wished the Obamas the best, but “it came from the fact that when he was running for office, people were fainting and he was the second coming, and ‘yes we can!’ and no one would look at him for what he was, and I thought people looked at him as a savior.” The other panelists stuck up for Hannity, as well.
In response, Beckel quipped “When you’re digging yourself in a hole, get rid of the shovel. I’ve made my point. That’s all I’m going to say.” Ouch.
