Political outsider President Donald Trump has been facing an uphill battle in Washington, D.C., even though it should be easy to pass laws given the fact that Republicans control both the House and the Senate and now have a conservative majority in the Supreme Court with Trump’s appointment of Neil Gorsuch.
Unfortunately, President Trump has been repeatedly undermined by members of his own party such as House Speaker Paul Ryan, who recently threw Trump under the bus by saying why he doesn’t support the president’s intended move of stopping President Obama’s program that coddles illegal immigrants.
Said Speaker Ryan on a Wisconsin radio station about Trump’s plan to finally give the boot to illegal “Dreamers,” “I actually don’t think he should do that. And I believe that this is something that congress has to fix.”
Ryan then attempted give himself political cover for defying President Trump by criticizing former President Obama, saying, “Let me back up for a second. President Obama did not have the legislative authority to do what he did. You can’t, as an executive, write law out of thin air. And so that’s very, very clear. We’ve made that very clear.”
He continued, “That’s one that we’re working on. I think we want to give people peace of mind. And so I’ve had plenty of conversations with the White House about this issue. And I think the president, as well, has mentioned that he wants to have a humane solution to this problem. I think that’s something that we in Congress are working on and need to deliver on.” Do you think Paul Ryan needs to finally get behind Trump’s agenda instead of sabotaging it?
